    Definition of Panic Disorder   Panic disorder is a type of anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent and unexpected panic attacks. A panic attack is a sudden and intense episode of fear or discomfort that reaches its peak within a few minutes. These attacks can be accompanied by a variety of physical and psychological symptoms, such as a rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, trembling, sweating, chest pain, dizziness, a feeling of impending doom, and a fear of losing control.
